How to Write Poems

A poem paints the whole picture in a few strokes; and like a good picture, worth a thousand words; as descriptive as a story without taking a lot of pages. Poems can beautifully capture conversations, feelings, situations and thoughts.

Though I always appreciated poetry, it was not until I wrote my first set of rhymes that I realised, I had a flair for writing poems.

I like writing poems every now and then, whenever I get some thoughts. I find them to be the best medium to express in without wasting too many words. I read rhymes, free verses, songs, couplets; anything that invokes an emotional response or appeals to me.

The way I see it, to keep poems fun and interesting, one should freely enjoy reading and interpreting their meaning.

A rigid educational system shouldn’t stop you from exploring the realm of poems. Get your feet wet. Taste the sweetness of poems. Chances are you might start liking them if you already don’t and feel motivated to write some of your own.

What does it take to write poems

To come up with your own poems:

Start simple
With a twinkle
A few lines that rhyme
Or don’t
Maybe about a cloud
Sailing aloud
Maybe about a bud
Raring to bloom
Or about just anything
That fits everything
To tell a story or a thought
That you cherish or not
